Two Atlantic City casinos plan to open this soon. In fact, the two facilities, Hard Rock Casino and Ocean Resort will begin this summer. Before these two Boardwalk properties open, there has to be job application. While there are many vacancies, very few people are applying. Local officials are even wondering if the facilities will ever get applicants with the right qualifications. Currently, casino jobs in Atlantic City facilities employ 22, 000 people. However, with additional resorts, the number will balloon by 27 percent, which is happening in 2018.
What Types Of Jobs Are Atlantic City Casinos Offering?
Hard Rock casino is reimaging former Trump Taj Mahal. Upon completion, this facility will be a rock ‘n’ roll-themed casino. The old Revel, now Ocean Resort is also opening this summer. Before the two facilities open, they need an aggregate of 6, 000 workers. The big question for now is, where will these workers come from? The already running resorts are also seeking to add the number of employees. The sum of employees all facilities need is 2,000. If this happens, the city will finally have 28, 000 employees. All these will be working in the casino sector.
Unite Here Local 54 Casino
Bob McDevitt is the president of the Unite Here Local 54 casino union. It is this union that engages billionaire Carl Icahn in an employee benefit dispute early last years. After the employer-worker benefit row, the hotel closes down. The union’s president says that getting workers is not a big deal. You will place the announcement in the morning and get hundreds turning up for the interview in the evening. The biggest problem, however, is to get the right candidate. “The greatest challenge is not getting people to fill the gaps. The challenge that most people do not know is to find the qualified personnel. It is quite challenging,” Bob says.

He even says that a lot of people think it is easy. “This is the tightest job market anyone can see. Many people pull out their stakes and leave. It is so hard to call them back. Besides, many jobs in this industry are for the younger generation. A lot of them do not stay at home. They do not see a ton of opportunities here, which makes it so hard,” Bob says.
AC Casino Closure
Between 2014 and 2016, five Atlantic City gaming facilities close down. They do not make any profits at all. There is no need for them to continue operations. As such, they leave a business. During their closure, the facilities go with over 10, 000 workers. All these workers will not fit the remaining resorts.
According to Stockton University, approximately 13, 000 Atlantic City workers are not working. This vast number quit the job market since 2013. Many of these are not staying around. They leave to search for work elsewhere. Although gaming revenues are starting to show up, unemployment is a big issue. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment in AC is still above 7 percent, which is happening at a time Atlantic City casinos are recording revenue rise.
